Wilhelmsburg
Wilhelmsburg – a district in change. The International Building Exhibition (IBA) and the International Garden Show (IGS) in the year 2013 opened the eyes of many people – also of many inhabitants of Hamburg – for this distric. Not a year too early! Because scarcely another district in Hamburg offers such a diversity as this Island in the river Elbe: two ancient settlements, living house quarters from the “Gründerzeit” (1871-1914), big residential building projects from the seventies of the last century, grazing cattle on the pastries near the “Bunthäuser Spitze” (where the river Elbe divides itself into two rivers), the rim of the island to the port and the both already mentioned exhibitions IBA and IGS.
